Baha Hearing Aid: The Most Comfortable Type Of Hearing Aid

Bone anchored hearing aid or Baha hearing aid is a hearing aid that needs to be implanted into the ear with the help of surgery after which it will help eliminate hearing problems and it works by using direct bone conduction in which the sound actually is conducted through a person’s bone instead of through the middle ear. Such Baha hearing aid systems were first tried out in the year 1977 and were later given FDA approval in the year 1996 thereby clearing the way for Baha hearing aids to be used to treat hearing loss problems.

Three Main Parts

There are essentially three parts to the Baha hearing aid and these are the actual implant, an external abutment and finally, a sound processor. All these three components have to work together so that they enhance natural bone transmission and allow sound to enter into the inner ear without needing to pass through the middle ear or external auditory canal.

The implant component of the Baha hearing aid is made up of a small piece of titanium, while the sound processor component sends sound vibrations through an external abutment which causes vibrations to the person’s bone and this in turn cause stimulation of the nerve fibers present in a person’s inner ear and thus enable the person to hear once more.

It is important to realize that only a few people are suited to using the Baha hearing aids because it is ideal only for someone who is not able to hear due to suffering from chronic ear infections or because of congenital defects in the middle ear. In addition, the Baha hearing aid is also very useful for those who are deaf in one ear since there are not many alternative and satisfactory solutions to taking care of unilateral deafness other than the Baha hearing aid.

The bottom line is that a Baha hearing aid is ideal for those who have problems with their outer and also middle ears and of course, for those with unilateral deafness. In addition, such a hearing aid is very comfortable to use surpassing all other types of hearing aid solutions, and it only requires to be implanted properly, after which you won’t even notice its presence, and nor will others be aware that you are using a hearing aid. It also is not given to slipping or loosening which is a common problem when using other types of hearing aids, and it also does not require any refitting once it has been successfully implanted.
